Hey stitchers!

Well, here we are! I'm half-way through my 20 starts in 2020 goal and I feel good! Stitching every day has been good for my soul, and I've really missed it. Due to my work schedule and hectic home-life, it's not uncommon for me to go straight to bed instead of picking up my needle and thread at night. Stitch Maynia this year has helped me stay calm, focused, and start some projects that were begging for attention!

It's been a productive few days - let's get into what I've been stitching!

I cannot believe it's already May. 2020 has proven to be... something! I'm trying to keep a positive outlook during these times of uncertainty. Because I was able to transition to a virtual environment for work, and because my kiddos are home with me participating in distance learning, I thought I'd give Maynia a whirl this year!

My goal is 20 starts in the first 20 days of May.

If you're stumbling your way to this blog, I hope you'll give my YouTube channel a try!

Yeah, it just didn't happen. "Blog Post" has been written on my to-do list for several weeks. I'm glad that I'm finally sitting down and taking a minute.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I have been on a finishing FRENZY, guys. I mean, I can't focus on anything BUT finishes, it seems. New starts have been few and far between because FINISHFINISHFINISHFINISH! I'm up to 10 stitched finishes this year (2 FFO's) and I'm so excited to share them here!
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">These aren't going to go in order, other than maybe "finishes" first. I'm just shootin' from the hip today, folks. Watch out!
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">2007 Prairie Schooler Santa
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Finished: 2/17/2018
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Stitched on 18ct Fiddlers Aida. I converted the skin tone and used GAST wool in Portabello and Baby Spinach for all the wooly parts in the chart (scarf, mittens, yarn, stocking).
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">This stitched up so fast once I got started and I love every stitch! I think I want to make these into flat ornaments for the Christmas tree. I have two finished, a third started (also a Wipocalypse piece), so my hope is to get to FFO'ing soon!
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">This was a small gift exchange with LyndaJo (PrettySouthern on YouTube). <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Started: Late January
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Finished: Early March
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Stitched on 28ct Monaco from a big box store using several hand-dyed threads from Weeks and The Gentle Art. Motif's taken from The Gift of Stitching and Punch Needle and Primitive Stitcher.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I joined a stitched mail art group on Facebook and this was my first swap. I had a great time making this for my partner and it was well received. I'll definitely be joining more swaps in the future. I didn't follow a specific pattern or template when making the envelope. Being a quilter helped me with basic construction, but that didn't stop me from having to rip out seams a few times. Hey, I'm not perfect!
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I was just shocked with myself when I finished this. Like, I just couldn't believe this project was finished. I DID IT! I'm not sure why the relief was so intense... it's an enjoyable stitch and not at all difficult. Once I put my mind to it I finished it up within a week, I'd say. I need to find a spooky frame for it. Surely this will hang on my wall for all year.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Another huge Wipocalypse finish! The repetitive motifs did not bother me at all - it made the last bit of stitching go fast and it was enjoyable. <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I started this for the #PCForestSnowfall SAL hosted by Priscilla & Chelsea on Flosstube. It wasn't a Wipocalypse piece, but it was one that I definitely wanted to get done. I had gotten frustrated and put it down because my house was a stitch too wide. In the grand scheme of things it didn't matter much and when I had finally gotten over being mad, I picked it up and finished it within a week. I did decide to leave off the snowflake and ivy border because the snowflakes compete with the dots on the fabric and really get lost in the background. I think this finish is awesome the way it is and I can't wait to find a cute, vintage-y looking frame to finish it in!
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Started: May 2017, I think.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Finished: n/a
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Stitched on 32ct Legacy linen by Picture this Plus, using the charted Classic Colorworks threads. I picked this out to work on during the Stitch Maynia Olympics challenge. I thought I could make a huge dent into the stripes with 20+ days of work. I made it about halfway through the challenge and had to put it away. This is a HUGE piece and the amount of stitching involved is extremely deceiving. While this isn't a focus piece, I may pull it back out for the Independence day holiday. In hindsight I wish I had chosen a darker fabric because, from far away, you can't really see the white stitching. Regardless, it's a gorgeous piece and I enjoyed working on it.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I got really excited about this piece. <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I thought I should pop in and give a little stitching update for January. I've been a busy little stitcher, and the "finish" bug has hit me pretty hard. Give me a goal and I run with it, and Wipocalypse 2018 has been no exception. I've completed two projects on my Focus to Finish list and I'm over the moon excited about it!
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">My first finish of 2018 was "Give Thanks" by My Big Toe Designs. I first saw this design when another Flosstuber showed it one of her videos. I thought it was pretty, but honestly didn't give it much thought after that. However, I found the magazine chart in my awesome $1.99 Goodwill binder and decided that I MUST stitch it. I converted the colors to be a more autumnal piece. I could not be happier with the result!
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">After the rush of a big finish, I wanted to pick up something else I could easily finish. This freebie from Plum Street Samplers fit the bill, which was started in October 2017 for TracyP's birthday SAL. I stitched on this for two days while I was glued to my computer watching the final days of the sentencing of local disgraced sports/Olympic physician. I can't even bring myself to type his name, so I won't. Lots of tears fell on this piece, but that's a story for another day. This happy finish came together just as the judge read her verdict.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I picked up another Wipocalypse 2018 piece. This project LITERALLY had about 20 stitches from the 2016 Maynia start I used it for. And I LITERALLY had to pick out 10 of those stitches because they were missplaced by one thread. Don't you hate that?! I'm going to have to sub out some colors for this one because the "kit" I purchased wasn't a true kit and the embellishment pack from Just Nan was not included. I'm considering it a mission from the Cross Stitch Gods and Goddesses. I hope I'm rewarded appropriately.
It's been... oh... 10+ years since I've owned a blog. People still do this, I've found. Lots of people. I have some work to do to catch up, so please bear with the chaos for a bit.

In all honesty, I started this blog a year ago. Almost to the day. I thought a blog would be a great add-on to my Flosstube channel. The more social media the better, right? Funny how this page just languished into... ohhhh... nothing. But, it's about to change for 2018! Yessiree! Let's start, shall we?

WIPOCALYPSE 2018! DUN-DUN-DUNNNNNNNNNN

I have a LOT of WIPs, guys. I mean, a LOT. I know that some people have more, but man. I'm running out of room to store stuff. So, when someone (could have been a Flosstuber, could have been on a Facebook group - I'm not even sure at this point) mentioned the blog event "Wipocalypse" and then mentioned that it expanded into a Facebook group, well... I had to check it out! And here we are.

I've picked about 12 projects that will be a focus to finish in 2018. Some are pieces I've had for several years, some are projects that I just really want to get done, and some are so close to finishing that it's just silly NOT to finish them.

1. BrewHaHa (freebie) from Plum Street Samplers. I started this project in October, 2017 for Tracy P's birthday stitch-a-long. I'm stitching this in-hand (my first time) on an aida I dyed myself using frozen blueberries. FOR SCIENCE!

2. Peacock Majesty from Just Nan. I purchased this OOP chart, fully kitted on eBay for a steal! I started this in May 2016 and literally never worked on it again. WHY? FOR WHAT REASON?? Doesn't matter... it's getting done this year.

3. Give Thanks by My Big Toe Designs featured in the September/October 2010 Just CrossStitch. I've converted all the colors. Until I ran out of one. That was a bummer.

4. Coffee Quaker by Heartstring Samplery. Apparently I need to drink more coffee before I finish this thing.

5. The Bird Keeper by the Goode Huswife. I love this chart. I paid a pretty penny for it, too. Bird Lady needs to make it to my wall, and quick, before the designer releases her again! (HA! I jest! YAY FOR LISA RE-RELEASING HER PATTERNS!)

6. Spirit of Christmas by Lizzie*Kate. I swore I would keep up with this one. And then I started it on the wrong orientation. And after re-starting it I was made. Just call me Scrooge. It's a gorgeous design, though, and I can't wait to finish it up before the holidays this year!

7. In the Meadow - found in Just CrossStitch December 2002 (I think). I started this project when the magazine came out, and my dog ate it. Literally. I restarted this in 2016. I loved it in 2002 and I love it today. It's time to pull this out of the WIP pile and finish it.

8. Kindred Spirits by The Primitive Needle. I'm using HDF silks for this one, plus it's an OOP chart. I think it's like a unicorn.

9. Spring Has Sprung by Count Your Blessings. The chart and fabric (Fabrics by LJ) were part of Heather Stitches Year of Giving in 2016. I subbed out several threads because I didn't have them in my stash when I started this project. I like the pillow finish on the front. I'll probably do that.

10. 2004 Prairie Schooler Santa. Started this on 12/24/16 with a fellow stitcher. It's our Christmas Eve thang now, which I love. I DON'T love that she finished hers and *I* didn't. I'm a slacker.

11. 2007 Prairie Schooler Santa. Started on 12/24/17 AND I'M KILLING IT! But we decided to change out the scarf, and I had an idea, and that idea requires a thread purchase which hasn't been made it. My friend called me an over-achiever. But take a look at #10. Clearly that isn't the case.

12. 12 Days (freebie) from Plum Street Samplers. I started this when it was released at the end of... 2015? Yep, pretty sure that's right. This year I finished the 7th and 8th day. I'm determined to have this displayed somewhere before next Christmas. The 3rd year is a charm, right?
13. We can count other crafts, right? I hope so, because this Weigh-It shawl has been languishing all year. I think I started it at the end of 2016, but I can't even be sure. It's aaaaaaaalmost halfway done. It's all knitting. I mean, ALL KNIT STITCH. Maybe I can finish it and still wear it this season. It's been darn cold in the midwest. I could use some yarn-y goodness.
14. Speaking of yarn-y goodness, this is going to be my first Sockhead hat. I was going to start it tonight, but out of the 5 bajillion knitting needles I have, I couldn't scare up the ones needed to cast on. Thankfully KnitPicks is open at night. #onlineshoppingisthebest
15. BONUS/NOT PICTURED: I have this king-size quilt top that has been folded up in my craft room since 2008, easy. It's time for me to finally but the borders on (if I even need them... this quilt is YUGE), pick out some backing fabric, slap it on the long-arm and get it quilted. My quilting friends shame me often because they remember when I started it. It's kind of a big deal. I'll give it it's own blog post when I finish it. IN 2018!

Okay, that's it. Those are my focus pieces for 2018. Obviously I'll be stitching on other things. I've got several SAL's I'm participating in, and a new start or two may crop up. But I'm REALLY excited about these projects. Also, I'm pretty committed to FFO'ing some stuff this year. I have zero cross-stitch on my walls.

Travesty.

Happy New Year, friends! May 2018 find us all in abundance of DMC, crafty time and coffee!
